The image image on the left I exported directly from the telescope after I took took 30 minute 10 second exposures. The image on the right I used the SeeStar S50 Telescope software to process the images here are the results.
The primary differences in the post-processed image of the Dumbbell Nebula (M27) compared to the raw unedited live stack:
- Background Darkness & Gradient Removal: The sky background is significantly darker, flatter, and more uniform. Residual light pollution gradients and sky glow were successfully neutralized.
- Target Contrast & Nebulosity: The contrast between the core of M27 and the surrounding sky is much sharper. The blue-green central core and outer reddish lobes stand out with greater clarity and vibrancy against the dark backdrop.
- Noise Reduction & Grain: The background noise/grain present in the default live stack has been smoothed out, giving the overall field a cleaner, smoother look.
- Star Prominence & Size: The star field appears slightly tighter and controlled, drawing immediate focus straight to the central nebula.
