Aurora 2024

So far in 2024 we had two auroras visible in my home town in Rockingham, NC. The first on May 10, 2024 and the second on October 10, 2024. I’ve been interested in astronomy since 1967 age 11 and remember the solar eclipse in Norfolk, VA at age 13. Since this time I had always heard about auroras and wanted to see one but you had to go to Alaska or Iceland. A few times they had been predicted where I was living in Virginia or North Carolina but I never got to see one. Did you know some auroras make sound? And here is my report on the two auroras I have seen so far in 2024. The images were taken with an IPhone 12 by Mark Gibson.

The April Aurora was definitely brighter in my opinion but the I saw more color in the October.
