Amateur Radio, K-8010, Portable, POTA

Today was an excellent weather day to go to a park. Started out with a pancake breakfast at a local church. Went out to K-8010. Only took 3 times to throw the Endfed up. Decided to do a couple of ten meter contacts

First time making over 10 contacts using Morse Code (CW)

First time achieving the N1CC requirements by operating on 10 bands in one park.

Persoal best for any park for Morse code (13). Awesome day.

Quick activation inspired by N4NTO. Unusual late afternoon into twilight time period. Went do my original spot for the park down near the Rockibgham Speedway for those NASCAR fans. I had a weird problem. Working from the front seat of the car is not my favorite position but I can do it. The HAMRS wouldn’t let me put a period in for the frequency. I stayed on 40 tonight so wasn’t too bad. I turned off the iPad and turned it back on when I got home and the period was there . Thanks for the p2p and the hunters.

One issue I had was the internet was spotty and HAMRS was updating the call sign with the amateurs data with the previous contact. One solution using a paper log or seeing if I can upturn off updates.

NC K-8010 #31 Working Australia twice on 10 meters

The number of QSO’s were short but the distance made up for it. This is a park I have activated with Parks on the Air program for 31 times. The number of QSO’s were down but the distance was up!

Two new parks in a day!

This is unusual for me but when my brother in law invited me to Tennessee I had to map out the parks to visit I found 5 but I think I better be happy with four while I am here.  Today I did K-2657 Natural Bridge State Natural Area 11.7 miles

K-2657 I chose to use my MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna 21 contacts.

POTA Adventure Tennessee Sunday Park 1 K-6257  Natural Bridge State Natural Area I chose to use my MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna 21 contacts. got to talk to a visitor about amateur radio seemed interested. Successful activation thanks to the 3 p2p and the hunters.  When you are around a natural area be very careful as you walk around.

It was interesting operating POTA being in a different state.  One of my loyal hunters W0CGC said he only used 43 watts to reach me since I was on his side of the mountain.  I really appreciate my host my brother in law inviting me to come down. He has 5 parks within easy drive. This one was only 1.4 miles away.  Here are the other possibilities

K-2977 South Cumberland State Park 1.4 miles

K-3941 Grundy Forest State Natural Area 1.4 miles

K-6238 Chimneys State Natural Area 11 miles

K-6257 Natural Bridge State Natural Area 11.7 miles

K-5493 Franklin-Marion State Forest 12.6 miles

I messed up my charging schedule on my faulty iPad I have to hold the cord just right to get it to charge and it failed to charge last night so only a little internet until my technology failed me. I appreciate the hunters who spotted me.

30 contacts thanks to the hunters and p2p. Ranger came out to talk to me. Very friendly. Told me of the other park down the street. Thanks for reading.

What a morning! And at first I didn’t want to go.  Everything went perfect only 4 throws using the strong arm method.

In the videos you will hear tips on taking down your antenna and what I do to organize my gear to carry it home.  Don’t worry about having everything perfect. I have grown and didn’t start out with the equipment I have now.  (And I don’t have the newest equipment) Thanks to the hunters and p2p and the early shift contacts.
