I activated this park using my friends (W4JE) Icom 7100 and 20 meter hamstick in his SUV. We had his YL with him so it had to be quick. At first I didn’t think I was going to activate today because it was really windy. An opportunity came for a road trip and Andy had his radio in the car so everything worked out. Thanks for reading.
I have said it before and I’ll say it again if you had to test for your aptitude to get your amateur radio license I wouldn’t be licensed. Realizing that yesterday was my hundred activation really pleased me. NC K-8010;McKenny Lake State Fish Hatchery is a special place being down the street from my fathers birthplace. I appreciate the p2p and hunters. 37 phone contacts and 5 CW contacts. My friend and fellow Rockingham resident Mark Dawkins N4MCD made a surprise visit. I got to work many friends the funniest contact was hearing a weak signal from my friend in Virginia W4JE. He had the Icom 7610 set to 0 and I still heard him. He later rechecked in and was his normal strong signal. My friend Tripp Owens checked in from my former home park NC-K-3854 on CW. Activating my old home park for the 30th time. I am getting closer to the Kilo goal (958) maybe next time. Seems like this park is not getting much attention by the amateur radio operators. Please consider activating K-3854 Flower Hill State Nature Preserve.
The forecast called for rain today but they missed the mark. I forgot my notebook and my iPad but I had a mini log and I made the most of it. 23 contacts including W1AW/4. One station AD7LX was 2 1/2 watts from WI. It was hard writing the log in the small space so I’ll put a spare notebook in the car for emergencies. I tried to work the park around the corner K-6947 but they didn’t hear me (on 20) I could just barely hear him. I was there yesterday. Thanks to all the hunters and p2p. Sorry no CW today.de n4mqu
Great day for an activation. Had trouble getting 40 to tune but after the activation I played around with the antenna and found the bushes were making the SWR higher. Moved it away from bushes and it was good on 20 and 40 but I was ready to go by that time. Thanks to the 3 CW contacts N4AWP, K9IS, WS4S. I had no idea what I was doing (not really) but two of the contacts confirmed on LOTW and N4AWP confirmed on the telephone. I think I am getting more comfortable.

On my way to my class in Raleigh yesterday I had fun activating my 32 park NC K-3848 Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve. I introduced my self to the attended to let him know I was there to do amateur radio then after I set up the ranger came by. I let him know I had checked in. He thanked me for doing that. Unlike the last two activations no swr issues on 20 and 40. Tip try throwing your rope backwards to get it on the limb you want. I had a blast. KO4GOM of Pinehurst came by and introduce himself. I encouraged him to upgrade and get active again. Paper logs make it easier to catch multiple stations. Thanks to the hunters and p2p.
